Baby on Board

If you have one of those window placards that says "Baby on Board," just skip to the *** at the bottom of the post.

So I have been seeing a lot of those Baby on Board placards lately. I don't know if it is because we were expecting a baby ourselves or what, but they are everywhere. So this started me thinking about the purpose and usefulness of such items.

To me these signs are a lot like a bumper sticker: you read it and forget it. I mean, seriously, is someone going to be driving down the road, read your pro-life bumper sticker and all of the sudden think, "You know what, it is about life," and not be pro-choice anymore? Probably not.

I think the Baby on Board placards have pretty much the same usefulness. I don't think someone who is about to cut you off, rear-end you, or t-bone you is going to suddenly change his mind once he notices the little yellow sign in your rear window. If you are serious about preventing someone from driving aggressively around you, you need this sign in your back window:

I think part of the problem is the drivers of the cars with these signs. Let's be honest, no one is going to take your plea for the safety of your child seriously when you swerve across five lanes of traffic so you don't miss your exit or when you light up a cigarette with your kid in the car (true story).
Bottom line: Baby on Bored signs are useless articles that only increase a driver's blind spot.
***Anyone who uses a Baby on Board sign truly cares about her child and everyone should respect her wishes and drive carefully around her.

Have you seen our car? Lesley says it helps to block the sun out of Ella's eyes as well as serve as a little reminder to drive safely. I am with you though. I highly doubt it ever affects anyone. Plus, your sign is way cooler. Where can we pick one of those up? Hope your summer is going well and congrats again.

I like our sunshield thingies (that kyle talked about) with the 'Baby on Board' signs on them because then people don't flip me off for only going 75 in the carpool lane. They pass me and instead of glaring at me for going too slow they see the sign and the carseat and their hearts are softened.
